Lichfield Friary Tennis Club’s teams are busily preparing for the start of the tennis season over Easter and are hoping to serve up a repeat of recent season’s successes starting with a tasty first match – a local derby between Lichfield Friary Mens B and Lichfield Esporta A.

For the last few years the club’s thirteen senior teams have enjoyed much success with various promotions across both the Staffordshire Wilson Inter-Club league and the ever growing Burton League.  This year all teams will again be aiming high and looking forward to a new challenge, the Aegon Team Tennis Championships, a nationwide LTA competition.

The mens A team are particularly looking forward to 2010.  They were promoted to the Wilson Staffordshire Premier One league, comprising of only six teams, for the first time in the club’s history last year.  This was their second successive promotion after being runners-up in Staffordshire Premier Two in 2009 and winners of South Staffordshire Division One in 2008.

Club Chairman Achim Kreuser said:

“We are very lucky to have so many teams, so many dedicated players but I have to give great thanks to the coaches and team captains who put in endless hours in organising the squads.  I wish all the teams a successful and fun season.”
