Burntwood U16s emerged as victors after an entertaining contest with Camp Hill RUFC at The Sportsway.

Both sides were committed to an ambitious, open style of rugby which Burntwood had the better of early on. Number 8 forward Scott Minnis notched the first two tries, both from good pick up and drives off the back of a scrum. Luke Rookyard added the conversions.

Skipper Jordan Wood finished off a great back row move full of quick passing and movement and this time Josh Read converted.

Just before the break Camp Hill hit back with a fine backs move which ended with their winger going over in the corner.

In the second half Burntwood had a player sin binned and the visitors scored 2 tries whilst they had the player advantage to put the outcome back in the balance at 21-17.

Back to full strength, Burntwood picked up the pace and winger Paulius Kananvicius scored a try in the corner after quick hands by the backs.

Star men for the side were Jordan Wood for his leadership of the side and new boy Lewis Aston.

On Sunday morning (April 18) the U17s are away to Spartans, the U14s host Burton and the U12s are at Camp Hill. The U15s have the delights of Whitley Bay to look forward to next weekend with fixtures against Percy Park and Morpeth.
