Twenty seven dog owners have been fined after a crackdown on people failing to clean up after their pets in Lichfield and Burntwood. The campaign by Lichfield District Council has seen patrols stepped up at areas such as Beacon Park, Chasewater Country Park and Darnford Park. Fines of up to £80 were issued to walkers who failed to pick up the mess from their dogs. Councillor Ian Pritchard, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Environmental Protection, said:
“No one likes seeing dog mess. It blights our parks and streets and shows a total lack of respect for the local community. All dog walkers must always remember to check that they have a number of bags to collect their dog’s mess in, before going out for a walk. “We will continue our patrols, and will take action against anyone we see not taking responsibility for their dogs. This could take the form of a fixed penalty notice of up to £80 or a fine of up to £1,000, if we decide to prosecute.”
