Lichfield Britain’s Got Talent star Shaun Smith has vowed the show must go on despite breaking his leg in a rugby match.
The singer – who wowed Simon Cowell and the other judges during at last year’s BGT auditions before going on to star in the live televised shows – faces six weeks in plaster after picking up the injury in a recent game.
But the former Friary student isn’t letting the cast stop him from meeting his singing commitments.
He told The Lichfield Blog:
“I did it in a match against Burton. I scored one try in the first half and was playing well. In the second half I took an inside ball from our winger and I was running to the try line when the opposition prop takled me around my shoulders. My studs got caught in the ground and the weight of him and me just snapped my fibula. I’ve got a metal plate supporting it at the moment.
“It shouldn’t affect any of my gigs though – after all, I haven’t broken my voice!”
But the singer will be undergoing a period of rehabilitation to get him back on his feet as soon as possible.
He explained:
“Hopefully I should be going on a week rehabilitation course in Cumbria when I’m out of the cast in about six weeks to get me back up to fitness.”
During his run on Britain’s Got Talent, Shaun’s performance of Bill Withers’ hit Ain’t No Sunshine even drew accolades from the man who originally made the song famous.
