Lichfield City FC 3 Continental Star Reserves 1

Lichfield City FC warmed up for their weekend trip to Feckenham with a 3-1 victory over Continental Star Reserves.

Hampton’s victory over Knowle Reserves on Tuesday (April 27) means that, despite that win, City slipped to third place in the Midland Combination Second Division table.

The Brownsfield Park outfit are level on 50 points with Hampton but have an inferior goal difference. They have three games left to play and currently sit nine points behind leaders Kenilworth Town KH.

Hampton have six games left to play, so City’s chances of winning the league are hanging by a thread. However boss Dean Gilbert is remaining positive and has re-iterated that all his side can do is win their remaining fixtures and see where that takes them.

He said:

“We can’t do anymore than we’re doing. We’ve picked up 22 from the last 24 points available and all we can do is try and win our last three games.

“Whatever happens though; it’s been a fantastic season. Feckenham is a tough place to go. They’re in fourth place and have two games in hand over us, so they’ve got everything to play for too. It’s such a tight league but, fingers crossed, we can pick up nine points from our remaining fixtures and we’ll see where that takes us.”
