Chasetown FC midfielder Ben Steane has claimed an “agenda” has led to his departure from the club.

The Scholars star confirmed recent speculation that he had decided to leave the club after falling out of favour with manager Charlie Blakemore.

But he has now revealed the reasons behind his departure on the eve of the club’s play-off final against Glapwell.

Steane said:

“I have probably played my last game for Chasetown. I feel badly treated regarding team selections and I was left out of the squad altogether for the semi-final. I feel the manager has had an agenda with me for a while.

“Other things have gone on and I feel hugely upset by them, but I don’t feel it’s right to go into them at the moment and take any focus of what is a big game for the club tomorrow.”
