Chasetown Ladies 3 Cresswell Wanderers 1

Chasetown entertained Cresswell knowing they would not have an easy ride against a side who still had ambitions of leaping a few places up the table.

It wasn’t the best of starts for the Scholars though as some of their players were delayed in traffic and the match started without them.

But Chasetown got off to a good start when a deep cross was retrieved by Natasha Whitehouse and knocked back for Abi Picken to float a shot in over the Cresswell goalkeeper from the outside of the box.

Chasetown thought they had doubled their lead when a good through ball by Nicci Barter was collected by Carly Edwards and tucked into the corner. However, the goal was ruled out for offside.

The score was 1-0 at half-time but that was largely due to the Chasetown goalkeeper, Becky Troth, who was quick off her line to clear over hit through balls or coming out bravely at the feet of forwards.

Cresswell certainly had a team with a lot of pace and skill and caused Chasetown problems.

The equalising goal by Rachel Wilcox was again controversial. A through ball saw the assistant referee flag for offside, but the whistle never came and the goal was allowed.

Chasetown raised their game and in the 65th minute a Jodie Kinsey through ball was collected by Sinead Treanor and she bundled it past the goalkeeper.

The game was made safe with a spectacular 35 yard free kick by Kinsey.

This was a battling performance by Chasetown and the whole team showed the quality and spirit that they have got.
