Michael Wilcox has been confirmed as the Leader of Lichfield District Council.

After being selected by the ruling Conservative party to succeed David Smith, the appointment has now been rubber stamped following the annual meeting of the council.

The 50-year-old councillor has lived in Fradley for 11 years and is a bank manager for HSBC.

Cllr Wilcox said:

“I am so proud to take on the role as Leader of Lichfield District Council. Having lived in Fradley for more than a decade, I know what a great place the district is to live. I’m really looking forward to working with my fellow councillors and officers at the district council to help deliver improvements in areas we know matter to local people.

“I’m also looking forward to using my experience, gained in the banking sector, to help the council to continue to deliver quality services in today’s challenging economic climate.”

Cllr Wilcox will also continue as the council’s Cabinet Member for Finance Revenues and Benefits.

He has represented the Alrewas and Fradley ward since 2007 and is also chairman of Fradley and Streethay Parish Council.

His predecessor Cllr Smith welcomed the appointment. He said:

“I’m absolutely delighted that Councillor Michael Wilcox will be taking on the role. Michael has been the Cabinet Member for Finance, Revenues and Benefits, and has many years professional experience delivering challenging projects against a strong financial backdrop. I look forward to supporting him in his new role.”

In other changes to Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet, Cllr Val Richards, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, will take over responsibility for communications.

Cllr Louise Flowith, Cabinet Member for Operational Services, will take over responsibility for tourism.
