Lichfield MP invites parody song DJ to experience LichVegas for himself

Michael Fabricant MP

Michael Fabricant MP

Lichfield’s MP has invited Chris Moyles to sample Lichfield life after the DJ played a parody song which claimed there was nothing in the city.

The Radio 1 Breakfast Show host played Wolverhampton Gurls – a light-hearted take on the Katy Perry hit California Girls.

But despite sticking the boot primarily into the Black Country, the song also had a dig at Lichfield with the line:

“You could go and see Lichfield, though there’s nothing really there.”

However, Conservative MP Michael Fabricant has suggested the DJ should visit the city to find out what it’s really like.

He told The Lichfield Blog:

“I shall invite Chris Moyles to LichVegas and show him how wrong he can be!  And it’s not just the bars and the restaurants.  It’s England alive and well.”

As much as I hate to say it, Moyles is right – there’s nothing really here. It would be pretty funny to watch Fabrican’t taking Moyles on a tour though, I imagine it would be quite short.

If you want the bright lights of a big city, Birmingham is only a stones throw from Lichfield – about half an hour on the train. Lichfield focuses on its strenghts of history and culture and long may that continue. If you want retail parks, cinemas and night clubs why not move to Tamworth?

Hmm…. Look, I love Lichfield, but thinking about Moyles’ target audience and presenting style, I fear Mr Fabricant’s invitation would backfire horribly if Chris Moyles were to take him up on it…..

Moyles is right…the only thing Lichfield has is a good transport link to Birmingham where civilisation does exist in leisurely form other than just a few pubs and restaurants. EVEN Tamworth has a cinema and pool bar…what has Lichfield got? A cathedral which only has limited appeal to limited tourists and the garrick…..great (!)

We can not afford a real hospital so the idea we should waste money on luxuries like a cinema/Garrick is ludicrous.
From Lichfield to Brums bright lights is not so different as some have to travel that live in Brum.
No one should expect everything on their doorstep. You want it get a train/taxi and pay your own way.
I recall when Brum had next to nothing thanks to a certain chocolate .We used to go to the smoke and still go to work next morn. Those were the days.
I also recall a visitor saying they had been to Lichfield – and it was shut!!
At least now – like it or not – Sun is all but a normal day.

Lichfield has a nice Park , aCathedral , an average shopping centre and very little nightlife . Hardly Las Vegas !!
