postofficeThe decision to reopen a post office in Abbots Bromley has been applauded by Lichfield’s MP.

It has been confirmed that a trial has been launched at The Cash Stores in Lichfield Road – just 300 yards from the former location of the post office.

And Michael Fabricant MP believes the decision will give the village a dual boost. He explained:

“I am relieved this proposal is being taken forward. There was a very real risk that the post office would be closed for good following the retirement of the local sub-postmaster.  Abbots Bromley villagers would have had to travel to Uttoxeter and back for post office services.

“This move also strengthens the long-term viability of the local village shop so it has a double benefit to Abbots Bromley.”

The decision was confirmed in a letter to Mr Fabricant from Post Office officials.

The correspondence stated:

“Due to a retirement and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, this branch closed on a temporary basis on June 19. I can assure you that it is our intention to continue to provide a service to our customers in the local community and we have been exploring a number of options that would enable us to do this.

“The establishment of a post office local service presents the best possible solution to allow us to restore services in Abbots Bromley. Post Office local is a new concept for delivering services from the premises of an established outlet. The service will operate from a newly formatted open plan counter in The Cash Stores and will offer a range of key products and services alongside retail transactions.

“Customers will benefit from the extensive opening hours provided by our operator.”

The new post office will be open Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 7pm, Saturdays from 8pm to 7pm and Sunday mornings 8am to 1pm.
