Children have been descending on Beacon Park to take part in a free play event.

Around 800 youngsters went along to the Lichfield District Council-organised event to mark the national Play Day campaign that aims to encourage children to play outdoors.

The council’s leisure team brought its giant inflatable caterpillar and bouncy castle and lots of other activities, including giant block building games, football fun, grass sledging and face painting.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said:

“I am delighted so many children of all ages came to Beacon Park to enjoy all the activities on offer. Well done to the team.”
