Dean Perrow missed a penalty as Chasetown played out a goalless draw in their friendly at Quorn.

The spot-kick came shortly after the break when the striker was barged over by home keeper Matt Nurse as he headed goalwards, but Nurse redeemed himself by palming away the striker’s penalty kick.

The first half had seen plenty of positive play from the Scholars, Perrow going close in the 13th minute but Nurse was again equal to him and plucked his shot out of the air, and the Reds keeper also denied Ramone Stephens before palming away another Perrow effort following a good passing move on 34 minutes.

Quorn’s principal chances came through skipper Chris Gray who fired straight at Ryan Price in the Scholars goal, while Ash Robinson fired a free kick wide from the six-yard line.

After Perrow’s disputed penalty was saved two minutes after the break, the hosts fought back and newcomer Craig Deakin was well-placed to block a shot from Steve Purton on 55 minutes as the Reds displayed some patient play.

Nurse again saw action on 70 minutes when substitute Grant Ryan found Gary Birch’s cross, the keeper collecting at the far post, before Quorn struck back but Kyle Smith fired just over the top.

With three minutes to go Ryan was unlucky again as he hit the post following a neat turn and shot, while Nurse once more impressed as he caught Gavin Saunders’ corner under the crossbar in the closing moments.

Chasetown next see action this Saturday (August 14) as they take on Sheffield FC at the Scholars Ground (3pm kick-off).
