Shenstone Pathfinder FC
Shenstone Pathfinder kicked off the season with a defeat – but only after giving last season’s third placed side as hard a game as they will have this season. The first half was fairly even with both sides having good spells of possession. Cchances were at a premium for both sides and Pathfinder defence, which was superbly marshalled throughout by Steve White, looked comfortable. However, ten minutes before the break a free kick from the left took a ricochet which completely wrong footed the Shenstone defence and fell to the feet of Hanwood’s forward who, from eight yards out, prodded the ball past Dan Clenton to give the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead. The second half saw Pathfinder dominate the early exchanges and they were nearly rewarded with an equaliser when Jay Dinham raced clear, his shot was parried by the Hanwood keeper and Dale Anderson missed narrowly under pressure from the rebound. With the home side on top and pushing for an equaliser Hanwood broke away down the left, a deep cross caught Pathfinder out of position and a good back post header made it 2-0. Shenstone continued to push but were unable to find a way through a well organised Hanwood side. Manager Chris Whitehouse said:
“We gave them a real game, they are a very good side as there league position showed last season and we gave them a scare today. Next week should tell us a bit more about where we are for this season, but on that performance we should be pushing to improve on last season and get into the the top half of the table”
Pathfinder travel to Brereton Social next Saturday (August 14) to take on Wyrley, kick off 3pm.
