Police appeal for Lichfield drivers who may have seen fatal A38 crash

Police are appealing for any Lichfield motorists who may have seen a crash which left a man dead.

The accident happened at around 11.50am on August 10 on the northbound carriageway of the A38 between Branston and Claymills.

A white Scania HGV was in collision with a white Mercedes van parked in a layby and a pedestrian, who suffered multiple injuries. The man, who is believed to be in his 50s and from Gloucester, was taken by air ambulance to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The lorry driver was not injured.

A 28-year-old man, from South Humberside, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police are appealing to any drivers who may have been travelling from Lichfield and witnessed the accident to ring PC 5599 Cathryn Holland or Sgt 4696 Giles Harper at Burton Police on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. The incident number is 282 of 10 August.
