Wyrley Juniors FC 1 Shenstone Pathfinder FC 3

Match Action 14-08 (3)Shenstone Pathfinder got off the mark in the league with a well earned victory against Wyrley Juniors.

With manager Chris Whitehouse away on holiday, Pathfinder made only one change from the side that performed well in defeat against Hanwood last Saturday with Ben Cribbett coming in at centre half for Andy Baldwin.

Cribbett slotted into the back four nicely and along with Steve White, Adam Lightfoot and Matt Heaton, the Shenstone back four looked solid throughout the game.

The early exchanges saw Pathfinder struggle to get a foothold in the game, but as the half went on they looked stronger with Matt Jones and captain Adam Simpson winning the midfield battle. Chances were limited for both sides, but the visitors could have taken the lead just before the break when Mercer’s shot went narrowly wide.

The second half saw Shenstone take control of the game and it was no surprise when Dale Anderson showed his class by calmly lifting the ball over the keeper when clean through for a fine finish.

With the game moving into the last 10 minutes Wyrley threw everything at Pathfinder and got an equaliser when a long throw was not dealt with and was nodded past keeper Dan Clenton in the visiting goal by Wyrley’s Chris Fowler.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until a ricochet in the area after a fine free kick from Mercer saw Anderson get his second goal toput the visitors back in from.

A frantic final few minutes ended with substitute Tim Travers racing away on the right and firing into the bottom left hand corner of the net to seal the 3-1 victory.

Pathfinder entertain Bridgnorth Town Reserves next Saturday (August 21) at Shenstone, kick off 3pm.
