Chasetown Ladies 3 Cresswell Wanderers 2

Chasetown Ladies warmed up for their first West Midlands Regional League campaign with a 3-2 friendly win.

Both sides played some excellent football on the beautiful playing surface at The Scholars Ground and the match was a good advertisement for women’s football.

The rustiness in both teams showed in the first 20 minutes with four goals going in, two in the first three minutes!

Cresswell scored with their first attack as their forward outpaced the Chasetown defence. However, Chasetown were level inside two minutes following a good in-swinging corner by Kerry Martin was headed in by Jodie Kinsey.

The visitors took the lead again on 12 minutes after a goalmouth scramble was cleared off the line by Simona Parker, only for a Cresswell player to tuck the ball home.

Within a few minutes the game was level. A long free-kick by Kinsey was headed on by Martin on the edge of the penalty area. An alert Charlotte Bull collected the ball and squared for Carly Edwards to knock the ball in.

A change of shape to the team at half time paid dividends as Chasetown dominated the second period.

Becky Troth was sharp to come out of her box to defend the few chances that Cresswell had in the second half but Chasetown created so many chances that they should have been out of sight. However, it was not to be and it was not until the 85th minute that Edwards scored the winner.

Chasetown Ladies: Becky Troth, Simona Parker, Katy Bridge, Nicci Barter, Charlotte Bull, Stacey Roberts, Jodie Kinsey, Sarah Thompson, Dani Wright, Kerry Martin, Carly Edwards substitutes Heather Loynes, Sinead Treanor, Holly Cooper, Lyndsey Turner, Fiona Barnes.
