Families have been getting in the saddle to explore the Lichfield area in the latest of a series of free cycle rides.

Eighteen people took part in the latest ride out – a 16-mile round-trip from the city to Chasewater.

Led by trained guides, the group cycled to Chasewater Country Park via Beacon Park, Abnalls Lane and Chasetown.

The youngest person to come along was two-year-old Montague Carlin, who enjoyed the view on the back of her dad’s bike. And, at just six years of age, Jaimee Alldritt managed the 16 miles on her own.

Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Development Services, said:

“It is wonderful that families are enjoying these rides together, and I am glad they are continuing to attract lots of people.”

Organised by Lichfield District Council, in partnership with Freedom Cycles with support from the Community and Learning Partnership, the event was the third in the series of the free family cycle rides.

All ages and abilities are welcome on the rides, but cyclists taking part need to bring their own bike and helmet. Children up to the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

Upcoming Sunday rides include a trip to Whittington on September 12, followed by a visit to Barton Marina on October 3. A ride to Fradley Junction on October 24 will be the last in the current series.

Anyone who wants to go along should meet on the day at 10am outside Freedom Cycles at Lichfield Bus Station. For more information call 01543 411633 or 01543 253666.
