Chasetown wrapped up their Bank Holiday weekend in style with a 1-0 win at North Ferriby United.

The Scholars entered a disciplined and workmanlike performance en route to their second win in three days, Grant Ryan’s second half strike sealing the win.

The goal came ten minutes after Ryan Price saved a Gary Bradshaw penalty, a moment which appeared to revitalise the side and improve their determination.

Ryan was included in the starting eleven for the first time this season and was straight into the action, his fifth minute shot saved by Steve Wilson following a cross from Gavin Saunders.

Chasetown enjoyed the better of some end to end play, while Paul Harsley enjoyed some good shots on goal for the hosts.

Saturday scorer Gary Birch and Danny Smith had the best of the play for the Scholars as the half progressed, but Price was still kept busy between the sticks, punching away a shot from Bradshaw on 26 minutes.

Bradshaw enjoyed several chances but Price was equal to each of them and the half ended goalless amid a lively atmosphere.

The second half got off to a bad start for the Scholars when Mark Branch was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and North Ferriby were awarded a penalty, but Price dived low to his right to save Bradshaw’s spot kick and kept the match level.

The save marked a turning point for the Scholars and ten minutes later they were ahead, Ryan receiving a long ball from skipper Richard Teesdale and beating the last defender to plant a right-footed shot past Wilson and into the corner.

Chris White could have equalised six minutes later but a last ditch tackle from Matty Cohen prevented him from shooting, and John Branch and Teesdale then combined to clear a free kick.

The play became tougher in the closing minutes and Ryan could have made it two on 82 minutes after the home defence failed to clear a loose ball, but the striker fired over the bar.

Ben Jevons could have landed his second of the weekend but keeper Wilson beat down his 85th-minute effort, and he then cleared a Ferriby corner as the Scholars held on for their second win of the Evo-Stik Premier season.

The Scholars are back at home next Saturday (September 4) as they host Kendal Town (3pm kick off) on before visiting league leaders Ashton United on September 6 (7.45pm kick off).
