Centre back top of Chasetown FC manager’s shopping list

Chasetown FC manager Charlie Blakemore has admitted he’s on the lookout for a new centre half.

The Scholars boss has been forced to throw youngster Chris Horton and newcomer Matty Cohen into action after losing Chris Slater to injury.

And with no official return date in sight for the former Port Vale man, Blakemore admits the centre of defence is one area where he needs to strengthen – even if Slater does make an earlier than expected comeback.

The Scholars boss said:

“We’re hopeful it’s only going to be another three of four weeks. He’s had a scan and he’s now seeing a specialist.”

Any new signing would come hot on the heels of former Hednesford Town man David Bridgewater.

The Scholars added him to their ranks in midweek and the midfielder made a good impression after coming on as a sub against Kendal Town.

“He’s a composed player and he’s played at this level and I thought he had a good game.”
