A new play area in Lichfield has been given an official opening.

The ceremony was carried out by the chairman of Lichfield District Council at Shortbutts Park on September 3.

After putting his mark on a commemorative stone, which has also been engraved by local children, Councillor Barry Diggle opened the new play area in front of invited guests.

The park’s new equipment includes a slide, tyre swing, see saw, zip-line and climbing rocks.

Cllr Diggle said:

“I was honoured to open the new playground and add my name to the commemorative stone. Shortbutts Park is at the heart of this community, and I know that local children will have lots of fun playing here for years to come.”

To celebrate the new facility, the district council invited local children and families to a free play session. Around 100 children went along to play games and paint bird boxes.
