Lichfield charity comedy show celebrates five years of fundraising

comicrehashThree local actors will be reliving five years of charity comedy performances in their new show at the Lichfield Garrick.

Ian Davies, Chris Stanley and David Stonehouse devised their fast-paced Comic Relapse sketch show to raise funds for Comic Relief.

And after raising thousands of pounds for the charity, they’re heading for the stage again – and showing that they are still going strong.

Chris said:

“I think we’ve got better over the years. We had good material from the start, but we’ve become more aware of what does and doesn’t work and can produce sharper, more balanced shows as a result.

“It’s quite hard convincing people to come to watch a locally produced sketch show, and it’s quite understandable. Too many of us have sat through some fairly dire local performances which rely on the audience laughing at their friends and relatives doing something silly on stage, but we know we can’t rely on that – we have to produce sharp, varied, well written and well performed sketches that are funny on their own merit.”

Each show so far has been made up of newly written material, but this year, encouraged by requests from audience members to repeat certain sketches, the show is being retitled Comic Rehash – the best sketches from five years of Comic Relapse.

Chris added:

“It’s a win–win situation, the audience gets to see a show full of sketches selected by popular demand, Comic Relief benefits from the ticket sales and, most importantly, we get a year off having to write new material!”

Comic Rehash will be at the Lichfield Garrick on September 24 and 25 at 7.30pm.  Tickets cost £10.50 or £6.50 concessions and all profits raised will go to Comic Relief. Tickets will be available on the door, or from the Lichfield Garrick box office on 01543 412121.
