Dudley Kingswinford RUFC U17 24 Burntwood RUFC U17 10

Burntwood RUFC U17s were involved in a great game of rugby away to Dudley Kingswinford.

The visitors ran their opponents close but a late penalty try saw the hosts secure a  24-10 win.

The sides were evenly-matched and counter-attacking was a feature of the game. The home side scored first, against the run of play but Mitch Carless replied with a penalty for Burntwood.

Just before half time the visitors committed too many players to a defensive ruck which DK exploited with a try in the corner.

Their lead was extended with another try right at the start of the second period. A charge down and a fortunate bounce fell straight into the No.8’s hands for a touch down under the posts.

Burntwood responded well to this setback. They stepped up a gear and great team play presented Luke Rookyard with a try under the posts converted by Joe Blacker.

Burntwood had opportunities to get back on level terms but last ditch tackles denied them.

The result was put beyond doubt with the penalty try award which was very much against the run of play. Man of the match went to Rookyard.
