Solid weekend for Lichfield Superbikes star Gary Mason

Lichfield rider Gary Mason enjoyed a solid weekend as the British Superbikes Championship headed to Croft.

The MSS Colchester Kawasaki man got off to the perfect start in race one as he muscled his way up to 10th from a 14th place grid position, before a safety car incident forced him to consolidate his position.

And consolidate he did as he managed to run to the finish in the same position.

Race two saw Mason fighting team-mate Simon Andrews. The Lichfield rider pipped his colleague for 11th on the first pair, before the duo continued to swap places as part of a dramatic ten bike lead pack.

Andrews clocked the fourth fastest lap of the race to nudge ahead of Mason, who again came home in tenth.

Despite his two strong finishes, Mason admitted he wasn’t entirely happy with his race weekend. He said:

“It was a bit of a frustrating weekend for us really. We struggled all through practice and qualifying to get the dry set-up and an issue with the brakes held us back in qualifying. But with things sorted in morning warm-up and some chassis changes the bike was brilliant and we showed how strong we really are.

“So in race one it was hard to battle through and then in race two we made some more improvements but then the pace was hotter because everyone else had done the same. I’m looking forward to Silverstone as it looks like a great new track but we definitely need a fast engine there!”
