Police and firefighters team up for safety events in Lichfield

Two more safety events have been organised by firefighters and police in Lichfield.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Staffordshire Police will be looking at home and road safety at the events on September 16 and October 1 at the Three Spires Shopping Centre.

Carmel Warren, Community Safety Manager for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

“We are working jointly with the police to raise awareness of home and road safety.  We will be discussing general fire safety on the day, paying particular attention to electric blankets now that autumn is approaching and we will also be encouraging people to book their free Home Fire Risk Checks.

“Home Fire Risk Checks allow trained technicians to identify potential fire hazards in the home and if required, we can also fit smoke alarms free of charge.”

Inspector Jed White, Commander of Lichfield neighbourhood policing team, added:

“Road safety is an important issue for families, and officers are hoping to get over some important messages to shoppers during these events. Too many drivers are still being stopped by police for using hand held mobile    phones or driving without a seat belt which puts them and other road users at serious risk.

“We also hope to talk to young drivers and their parents about the importance of driving carefully, using the roads responsibly and respecting other road users and pedestrians.”

The events will run from 10am to 4pm tomorrow (September 16) and 10am to 2pm on October 1.
