Shenstone Pathfinder FC Reserves 1 Sheldon FC 2

Shenstone Pathfinder were buoyant after two wins on the bounce, but it was the visitors who started the stronger side.

The Sheldon wing play was posing a number of questions on both flanks, but they found Paul Buxton in the home goal in good form.

But the visitors did take the lead on the half-hour after an overlap on the right saw the Sheldon striker cut inside and fire a low cross across the Pathfinder goal. Stan Bailey attempted to clear, only to see his effort steer the ball into his own net.

With a 1-0 deficit to overturn, Shenstone were better in the second half and pushed hard for an equaliser. They were eventually rewarded when Chris Caddy raced away on the left and was brought down just inside the box. Adam Walls slotted home the spot kick.

The goal seemed to stir Sheldon and they poured forward looking to regain their lead.

Pathfinder looked as though they may hold onto their lead until a misjudged clearance by Bailey saw the Sheldon striker race clear and slot home past Buxton.

Manager Gaz Seedhouse said after the game:

“It wasn’t a bad performance, but some of our young players are still learning to play open age football. It will have been a good lesson for them, but they are very talented and we know they will give us a good season.”
