Burntwood RUFC U15 20 Spartans RUFC U15 18

Burntwood RUFC have dominated previous meetings between these two sides, but the injection of half-a-dozen ex-Sutton players into the visiting squad balanced this clash up.

Spartans opened the scoring shortly into the game and it seemed as though they would control proceedings.

But after 20 minutes Burntwood came alive, Fred Jones took a superb catch laying off to Josh Birch who took the ball over for a well earned try.

Spartans took three points from a penalty to close the first half 5-8 in front.

Burntwood were much stronger in the second half and were soon in the lead Charlie Liggins getting a try from Harry Davisons’’ hard work, picking up from the scrum not quite making the line and Liggins capitalising.

Ben Tranter added ten more points his pace and determination proving to much for Spartans.

Spartans rallied and came close to bringing the score to evens but were beaten by the whistle.

Elsewhere, the Burntwood RUFC first team received a bye in the First Round of the Midlands Senior Vase competition and opted to keep their powder dry ready for their next league game away to Bishop’s Castle and Onny Valley this Saturday (October 2).

The 2nds lost at home to Sutton Coldfield 2nds 40-17, while the 3rds hosted Cannock 2nds and won 22-11.
