People in Lichfield and Burntwod are being asked to nominate their local volunteering heroes for a new award.

Staffordshire County Council is asking people to get in touch if they know anyone who’s a truly inspiring volunteer in the community, with nominees considered for the inaugural Volunteer Staffordshire Awards.

Cabinet member for Communities and Culture Ben Adams said:

“The awards are about celebrating and thanking those that often go unnoticed – our volunteers. Whatever they do, volunteers are helping to build stronger communities, and give something back to where they live. They are special people, and these awards will recognise, celebrate and thank them for their outstanding contribution.”

Nominations can be made in eight categories:

  • Staffordshire Volunteer of the Year
  • Staffordshire Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Staffordshire Volunteer Team Award
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Community Good Neighbour Award
  • Volunteer co-ordinator of the Year
  • Sporting Volunteer of the Year
  • Business Contribution to Volunteering

Those shortlisted will be invited to a gala awards ceremony in January.

Dave Walters is one of the county council’s highways managers and also a keen volunteer as an assistant Scout leader. He said:

“I hope that these awards highlight the range of roles that volunteers do, as well as celebrate the people that have really gone that extra mile to help.
“I’m lending my support to the campaign as I see the impact that volunteers have on people’s lives. Now’s the time to nominate them.”

People can find out more about the awards and nominate their outstanding volunteer before the October 29 deadline at

The deadline for nominations is Friday October 29.
