The Great Wall of China
People in Lichfield and Burntwood are being given the chance to take part in an awe-inspiring journey on the other side of the world in aid of St Giles Hospice. In October 2011, the Great Wall of China Trek will give people from across the region the chance to experience the challenge of a lifetime while raising much-needed funds for hospice care. The exciting 10-day expedition involves a 45-mile trek along a stretch of the world-famous landmark, taking in some breathtaking scenery and experiencing China ’s magical culture and heritage along the way. Anyone interested in making the most of this unmissable opportunity can find out all they need to know at an information evening, taking place at St Giles Hospice on Fisherwick Road, Whittington, at 7pm on October 5. Sarah Shelton, Community Fundraiser for St Giles Hospice, said:
“The countdown to our incredible Great Wall of China Trek is now well and truly under way – so if you fancy getting away from it all this time next year, why not come along to our information evening to find out more? This inspirational expedition is designed to be challenging but you certainly don’t have to be super-fit to take part, with trekkers who have already signed up ranging in age from 23 to 61. “However, places for the event are limited – so make sure you don’t miss out!”
The Great Wall of China Trek takes place October 1 and 10 and offers participants the chance to extend their stay in China to take in sights such as the famous Terracotta Army. It is open to anyone aged over 18, and fundraisers hoping to grab one of the final places on the trip are urged to visit the information evening.
