A Lichfield brewery is unveiling its latest real ale at a beer festival this weekend – after it was named by the winner of an online competition.

Visitors to Quartz Brewing’s Oktoberfest beer festival at Heart of the Country Shopping Village – which takes place until October 3 – will be able to taste Ale-Del-Weiss, the name that was given to the drink by Tess  Crabb.

Winner Tess was one of hundreds of people who suggested names for the special edition beer via Facebook and Twitter. She will receive a five litre mini cask of the beer for coming up with the new name.

Quartz master brewer Julia Barnett said the winning entry was chosen because it matched the full and fruity straw coloured beer which has a classic German hop finish. She added:

“It was a really tough decision to choose the winning name as we had some fantastic suggestions from both Facebook and Twitter, as well as people dropping in their suggestions to the shop. And we were delighted with the level of response and the amount of thought people had put into their suggestions.

“But Tess’s suggestion really stood out for us, especially as it was so creative.”

As well as receiving her prize, Tess will also have the opportunity to tase the beer at the Oktoberfest event this weekend.

Julia added:

“We’re looking forward to a great weekend with half a dozen of our beers on draft as well as guest beers from some fantastic breweries.”

Guest ales at the event include Derby Brewing, Golden Sunrise, Shardlow Brewing, Reverend Eaton, Leatherbritches, Dr Johnson, Milestone, Forest Gold and Taeberry Boch.
