“There is strong feeling in Lichfield and the surrounding area concerning the proposed route of HS2 and whether HS2 is really necessary at all. “I am delighted that Philip Hammond has accepted my invitation to see for himself how the route of the HS2 will affect local residents in Lichfield and the surrounding countryside. I hope when he leaves, he will have a lot to think about.”Among those who will be attending the meeting are representatives for Lichfield District Council, Lichfield City Council and the Lichfield Action Group. Tamworth MP Chris Pincher will also be there along with six representatives from his constituency.
Lichfield campaigners battling to stop a high-speed rail route through the city will get the chance to quiz a member of the Cabinet. The city’s MP Michael Fabricant has confirmed that the Secretary of State for Transport, Philip Hammond, has agreed to visit Lichfield on Tuesday (October 5) to tour the route of the proposed HS2 line and meet councillors and campaigners. And Mr Fabricant believes the visit will give Mr Hammond food for thought. He explained:
