Musical theatre group appeals for new members

The Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company in rehearsals

People from Lichfield and Burntwood are being invited to join Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company.

The recent run of reality TV programmes based on searching for tomorrow’s West End stars, has brought about a renewed interest in musical theatre. However there are a lot of people out there who would perhaps love to have a go but don’t know how to go about getting started.

A musical requires people of both sexes and of all ages, shapes and ethnic background.

Forty-five-year-old Paul Lumsden said:

“It requires good voices first and foremost but it also needs good actors and good dancers. If you can only sing well, then great! If you can act too then fab! If you can do all three, wow! Age is not a barrier either. We welcome everyone 16 years and over.”

The company is about to perform the fun, 1970s-based pop musical Boogie Nights at The Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. This will give the company an excellent opportunity to dress in wild 70s clothes, sing their hearts out to some classic disco hits and dance like John Travolta for a week starting on October 12 and running until October 16.

Paul said:

“It’s too late for new members for this show but please come along and watch it so that you can get an idea of the type of society we are. Introduce yourself to me or another cast member in the bar after the show and we can get the ball rolling.

“We will then start rehearsing for our annual Christmas concert at the Town Hall and then straight after Christmas we will begin rehearsals for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, to be performed at The Lichfield Garrick in Whitsun 2011.

“Little Shop of Horrors at the Sutton Coldfield Town Hall will follow in October 2011.”

Musical Director Sheila Pearson added:

“We are really looking forward to all that we have ahead of us and would love for anyone to come along on October 29 for an open/recruitment evening where they can meet us all and sing through a few songs that will be used for the Christmas Concert. Then we generally go to the pub to end the evening socially and everyone is welcome to join us… if you’re old enough!”

The company also has a fantastic social calendar – London theatre trips, barbecues, horse riding,  karting and camping, all of which, members can partake in as little or as much as they like.

They meet every Friday evening at Four Oaks School at 7.30pm and if you get a principal part or principal dancer role, some Tuesdays.

Please contact Paul Lumsden 07989 941923 or email for further details, or just turn up and introduce yourself. You will be very welcome!

Tickets for Boogie Nights are available from 07856 537168.
