After a series of hard fixtures Burntwood RUFC 2nds won their first match of the season, defeating Leek 2nds after a cracking contest at The Sportsway that finished 28-5.

The hosts dominated the set pieces and defended well when they had to.

A charge by Paul Rogers led to the first try for Ritchie England. The hosts kept up the pressure but could only add two penalties by Craig Addy up to the break.

Addy went in for a fine individual try straight after the restart which he also converted. Five minutes later he was also involved in the try of the game.

A series of swiftly-won rucks set the backs in motion left and right then Addy’s chip through was perfectly weighted for Dan Garritty to collect and score. Brett Taylor also went over during the second period for Burntwood.

Leek enjoyed the better of the closing stages as Burntwood’s efforts told on them and some missed tackles allowed the visitors to score a consolation try.

On Saturday (October 9), Burntwood 2nds are in Merit Table action at Longton 3rds.
