Longton RUFC 3rds 17 Burntwood RUFC 2nds 17

Burntwood RUFC 2nds followed up their first win of the season a week earlier with a fine all-round team performance away to Longton 3rds in the Merit Table, winning 43-17.

The hosts caught Burntwood napping as early as the first minute when a wayward pass was intercepted for a home winger to race in from halfway. The conversion was added for 7-0.

It took the visitors just five minutes to respond when Craig Goodall scored the first of his three tries to inspire his side.

They went on to dominate the rest of the half with Nick Peplow racing in for the second try, Goodall adding his second and two penalties from Anthony Morgan.

Longton interrupted the flow with their second try to leave the score 21-10 at the break.

Longton had 10 minutes of possession early in the second half, scoring a converted try from a bulldozing forwards’ drive then it was Burntwood all the way to the finish.

Goodall completed his hat trick, Dan Garrity, who impressed throughout,  Jon Pucci and Mark Partridge scored the tries and Morgan added a conversion.
