Chasetown FC boss Charlie Blakemore has hailed his players after they moved into third place in the table.

The Scholars have proved to be the surprise package of the season so far in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division and continued their run of form with a 5-0 hammering of Burscough.

But despite their promising start to life in the higher division, Blakemore is aiming to keep his players grounded.

The Chasetown manager explained:

“I’m really pleased with how the lads have adapted to the league. It is close though, it’s tough, it’s tight and I’ll take the win. But I won’t be letting anyone get carried away.”

Although striker Gary Hay stole the headlines with his brace, Blakemore was keen to pay tribute to his goalscoring midfielders who also made sure the Scholars recorded a resounding victory against Burscough.

First-half sub Danny Edwards lashed home the opener before Dave Egan and Ben Jevons chipped in with headed efforts as Chasetown romped home.

Blakemore added:

“Danny Edwards turned the game when he came on, I thought he was superb. Egan and Jevons were great in midfield along with [David] Bridgewater, but I could name them all because Ryan Price and the defence kept a clean sheet. All of the lads deserve credit.”
