Lichfield Operatic Society set to perform classic tale

Since the first publication of Robert Louis Stevenson’s story of the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1886, people have been fascinated by the story.

This sinister tale of good and evil has been re-told many times – in plays, films and more recently in a major musical.

And now Lichfield Operatic Society will re-create the story at the Garrick in November.

Eoin Edwards takes on the difficult role of Dr Henry Jekyll, who believes he’s discovered a chemical formula to separate good from evil.

Jekyll, in the process of performing his dangerous experiments against the advice of the establishment, to pursue his passion and dreams, creates his alter ego, Edward Hyde, with disastrous consequences.

Eoin feels it’s a ‘real honor’ to have been given the lead role by Director Julie Mallaband. He said:

“I’m really enjoying it and hope to do the part justice. I love this particular show not only for its wonderful music, diverse characters and sinister plot, but also for its potential to have light and shade and to be very funny.”

The superb score, with music by Frank Wildhorn and the book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, has both a dramatic and romantic storyline and features the well known song This Is the Moment.

Jekyll & Hyde runs from November 2 to 6 at the Lichfield Garrick. Tickets are available from Lichfield Operatic Ticket Secretary on 01543 480506 or direct from the box office on 01543 412121 or at www.lichfieldgarrick.com.
