Lichfield City FC 1 Henley Forest FC 3

Ill-discipline cost Lichfield City FC as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Henley Forest FC in the imoSports Midland Combination Second Division.

City were reduced to eight men after three players saw red in a feisty Brownsfield Park encounter.

After a tame first half, the game exploded into life soon after Dan Hodgkins had given Dean Gilbert’s men a 1-0 lead.

Lewis Bourne went into a strong tackle, which Forest took exception to, leading to something of a brawl in the middle of the park. Danny Worrall, attempting to calm things down, pulled a Forest player away but was deemed to have put his hands on his opponent and was promptly dismissed.

The visitors made their superior numbers count and were soon level at 1-1 before Adam Price gave City a real uphill battle after seeing red for a two-footed lunge.

Forest, now two men to the good, slammed home their second to put them 2-1 in front. However, to their credit, City rallied and both Hodgkins and Bourne went close to restoring parity.

New signing Adam Clarke, who joined from Walsall Wood, was introduced as the hosts looked to steal a point.

Their hopes were soon dashed though as Tom Ivors was dismissed for allegedly stamping on an opponent.
Forest wrapped things up late on to ensure a miserable afternoon for City.

Gilbert added:

“To finish a game with eight players is a disgrace. One thing I am all about is discipline and the players have not only let themselves and the club down, but they have let me and my assistant, Frank McLeod, down.

“Some people need to take a good hard look at themselves and realise that this type of behaviour won’t be tolerated. The club has worked hard to achieve Charter & Community Standard, something we are very proud of. The actions of our players was out of character and they were duly punished.”

Lichfield City travel to Continental Star Reserves this weekend (October 23). Kick-off is 3pm.

It was a better weekend for Andy McRobbie’s second string as Lichfield City Reserves drew 1-1 with Littleton Reserves in imoSports Midland Combination Division Three.

McRobbie’s side entertain Future Legends at Brownsfield Park this coming Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
