Lichfield school band kicks off new jazz festival

The Nether Stowe Big Band

A Lichfield jazz festival got off to a swinging start thanks to musicians at a city school.

The Back Room Jazz Festival at the George IV pub is the brainchild of former Nether Stowe student Nick Dewhurst.

And when he needed an opening act, he looked no further than his old school’s big band.

A school spokesperson added:

“Recently back from a highly successful tour to Lichfield’s twin town, Limburg an der Lahn in Germany, the Big Band is much in demand throughout the city, and further afield. With students from Years 7 to 13, and a repetoire of over thirty items, which range from traditional Jazz to Disco and Funk, the students made a rousing start to this new festival.”
