Lichfield Scout worker nominated for volunteer award

A Lichfield volunteer is among those nominated for a county award.

Angela Burns has been nominated in the Staffordshire Volunteer of the Year category of the Volunteer Staffordshire Awards, which is being organised by the county council.

She is the volunteer Scout leader for Foresters Scouts (11th Burton Scout Group) and also runs two Beavers’ Colonies, two Cub packs and a Scouts’ troop.

Angela was nominated by Judith Harrison for the work which sees her she runs meetings at least four evenings a week and arrange events and camping trips for the children.

Judith explained:

“The children have enormous respect for Angela and she in turn provides a huge amount of information and inspiration to the children. Her whole life and home are dedicated to the Scouting movement – she admits to having little space left for her own belongings as most of her home has become a storage area!

“On top of all this Angela holds down a full time job and makes a lot of time for her children and grandchildren.”

Angela added:

“I’m very touched to be nominated for this award – I volunteer it because I love seeing the children develop and enjoy themselves. It really is such a pleasure being part of scouting and meeting such wonderful families as we have in the group.”

There is still time to nominate volunteer heroes at or at any library or volunteer centre. The deadline for nominations is October 29.  The winners will be announced at a gala award ceremony in January.
