Midfielder desperate to see Chasetown FC’s winning run continue

Chasetown FC midfielder Ben Jevons has admitted the players are desperate to keep their winning run in the league going after they finally slayed their cup demons in midweek.

The Scholars head for Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday (October 23) on the back of a victory in their FA Trophy replay against Sheffield.

The win – which saw Jevons net his sixth of the season – came during a season that has seen Chasetown ride high in the league, yet struggle to progress in knockout competitions. Charlie Blakemore’s men were ditched out of the FA Cup by Kidsgrove before being humbled in the Walsall Senior Cup by Heath Hayes.

But the midfielder believes Chasetown can kick-on having exorcised their cup demons.

He explained:

“Any win is a good win, but we would love a run in the cup, especially when the final is at Wembley like the FA Trophy. But we just need to make sure we keep our little unbeaten run going for as long as possible.

“You try to get something from your away games and then win your home games. As long as we stick together as a team we won’t be too far away in most games because we all work for one another.”

Manager Blakemore has already hailed his high-scoring side and praised the efforts of his midfielders to chip in with the goals.

Jevons has been one of the key figures in hitting the back of the net and lightening the load on the club’s strikers.

Midfield partner in crime Dave Egan has also chipped in with goals – and has confessed that the light-hearted rivalry between the pair is having the desired effect on the scoring chart.

But Jevons believes he’s firmly in the hot-seat on that front. He added:

“Long may my goalscoring continue. Dave Egan and I have some good banter about who will score the most goals, but I’m winning at the moment 6-2!

“However, he enjoys it when I score and I enjoy it when he does because we are in the same team. We have a fantastic spirit all through the team like that.”

Chasetown’s game at Stocksbridge Park Steels kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
