Burntwood Leisure Leagues football round-up

A thrilling end to the season in the Burntwood Sunday six-a-side league is in prospect after a strange set of results in the penultimate round of fixtures.

Both the leading sides LGCC FC and FC Firm picked up their second successive goalless draws. Firm’s stalemate was particularly unexpected as it came against strugglers Brian Blessed Hawkmen – who could still go down. All of which left Young Guns, who beat Fortress 2-1 thanks largely to Lee Standon, in with a chance of winning the title.

A Simon Murphy-inspired Scholars FC and Not So Pro both won 3-0 to keep their division one promotion hopes alive, beating Burntwood 6 and The Untouchables respectively, although Aspen Arrows 1-0 triumph over The Big Devils looks like being enough to get the second spot.

Two-nil was a popular score in the Monday Premier Division with The Drop Outs and AFC Clayhanger beating Athletico Chasetown and Definitelymaybe respectively, while The Barns managed that score too, beating Chase Rattlers to pick up their first win of the campaign.

Lichvegas are still at the bottom of the table in division one after losing 5-0 to Deportivo La Catalent, although Burntwood VI moved away from the basement as they also went nap, seeing off FC Long Shots.

It was a good day for the division two leaders. Team Tek head things by just one goal and beat Fifa Tuesday 3-1, while Shelfield United were knocked off the summit despite a single goal win over Day Release. Big Macs are just off the summit in division three after their 3-1 cruise over early strugglers Streetly Rangers and it was honours even in perhaps the pick of the games elsewhere as The Green FC drew 2-2 with Inter.
