Burntwood RUFC 2nds 26 Newcastle (Staffs) RUFC 2nds 0

What a difference a month makes – Burntwood 2nds lost all four games in September but have now won all four in October, the latest 26-0 at home to Newcastle (Staffs) 2nds in a Merit fixture.

The hosts caught their opposition cold with an early try for skipper Tony Davies. He finished off a forwards’ rumble from the Newcastle 22, Nick Peplow having almost made the line first. Craig Addy converted.

Winger Peplow, who proved a real handful for the visitors’ defence all afternoon, scored the 2nd. He received first phase possession via the backs to cross wide out. Addy converted.

Addy then went off injured leaving Steve Blockley with an easy penalty chance right on the break but he missed a sitter.

The third try went almost unnoticed as several players were engaged in a frank exchange of views. Flanker Beau Hildick scored under the posts for Martin Ottey to convert.

The final try from Ottey was the result of good all round support play with Hildick tackled just short but managing to pop the ball to Ottey.

Youngsters Jack Neal, Dan Thornton and Peplow all impressed against abrasive opposition.
