Burntwood RUFC U15 50 Newport (Salop) RUFC U15 17

With the U17s on tour in Italy, the only junior fixture this week at Burntwood RUFC was the U15s game at home to Newport (Salop) – and a very entertaining contest finished 50-17 to the hosts.

Burntwood took the lead in familiar style with just 2 minutes gone, winger Ben Tranter outpacing everyone for the opening try, converted by Charlie Liggins.

This sparked Newport into action and they hit back almost immediately with a try but no conversion.

Back came Burntwood for the next score and the match had begun with three tries in the opening 10 minutes on a perfect morning for running rugby.

By half time Burntwood had moved 33-10 ahead helped in no small measure by two barnstorming runs from recent recruit Ryan Johnson, making the line each time.

Both sides continued to play good rugby in the second half. Newport’s third try was well-deserved after going down to 14 men – they kept the pressure on to ruck and maul the ball over.

The match finished as it had begun with Tranter streaking down his wing and round to the posts for his fourth try of the morning. Johnson had earlier completed his hat trick and Liggins had a touchdown to go with his five conversions.
