Two of Lichfield’s refuse collectors have retired after clocking up a combined 69 years of service.

Paul Brindley bid farewell to his colleagues after 37 years while Geoffrey Skelton- known as Dave – retired after an impressive 32 years’ service.

In their time at Lichfield District Council the duo have seen major changes to the way rubbish is collected.

When they began working trolleys were still being used to wheel the dustbins round to the back of the old dustcarts, before the collection of black bags from the roadside was introduced and the wheelie bin collection service that is in operation today.

Operations manager Tony Harris said:

“Paul and Dave have dedicated many years of service to the council and they will be sorely missed by the team. They always got on with the job and have worked consistently hard, emptying what must be hundreds of thousands of bins from across the district, and, latterly, Tamworth Borough.

“On behalf of the whole team, I would like to wish Paul and Dave a happy retirement and thank them for all their hard work over the years.”
