People across Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged not to miss out on their chance to vote.

In May voters will be asked to choose their parish and district representatives at the local elections and it will also be the chance to vote in the proposed referendum on the UK parliamentary voting system.

Lichfield District Council has already begun the job of compiling a new electoral register that will be the basis for next year’s elections. This included sending 42,979 annual canvass forms to households across the district.

And, in an effort to make sure no one who is eligible to vote is missed off the electoral register, in September the council sent reminders to households that had not registered.

Nina Dawes, Electoral Registration Officer for Lichfield District, said:

“Remember, if you want to have your say at the next local election, and help to choose the people that make decisions that affect your everyday life, you must be registered to vote. It is simple to register. All you need to do is fill in your annual canvass form and send it back to us.”
