Lichfield shoppers to get smoke alarm reminder from city firefighters

Lichfield firefighters will be warning shoppers of the need to test their smoke alarms during a visit to a city supermarket.

They will be at the Morrisons store on Beacon Street from 11.30am to 2.30pm today (November 1) to help raise awareness of their Push the Button campaign.

The firefighters visiting the store have already starred in a spoof music video to support the campaign and they will be playing the song at their stand inside the store.

Lichfield Watch Manager, Steve Whitehouse said:

“We’re looking forward to meeting shoppers at the store on Monday. Not only will we be asking them to push the button on their smoke alarms, we’ll also be speaking to them about how they can stay safe this Bonfire Night. The last thing people want at their Bonfire Night party or display is a visit by us or the paramedics.”

Morrisons manager Steve Murphy added:

“We’re pleased to welcome the firefighters into the store to raise awareness of fire safety amongst our shoppers, particularly with Bonfire Night approaching – we want to ensure our customers buying fireworks are fully aware of how to store and use them correctly to prevent any unnecessary incidents or injuries.”
