Chasetown FC have received a boost with the news that Ben Jevons will not be out long-term after being stretchered from the field in his side’s game against Hednesford Town.

The midfield scored in the 5-2 defeat last night (November 2) but saw his evening end on a sour note when a crunching tackle saw him carried off late on.

However, it has now been confirmed that Jevons hasn’t broken his ankle as was first feared.

He said:

“It’s just ankle ligaments and leg muscle damage so not as bad as I thought. I’ll only be out for two or three weeks hopefully.”

The injury capped a miserable night for the Scholars who saw themselves three goals down to their local rivals at half-time, before Gary Birch and Jevons gave hope of a Chasetown comeback.

But the Pitmen sealed the result with two goals in the second period.

And Jevons believes the Scholars paid the price for their own mistakes.

He told The Lichfield Blog:

“We defended poorly and got punished. I would say we had good chances in the first half but didn’t put them away.”

Chasetown will have time to reflect on their defeat as they have no fixture this weekend. The Scholars’ next action sees them visit Buxton in the Evo-Stik Premier League next Wednesday (November 10), 7.45pm kick-off.
