Lichfield pub’s plan to extend outdoor seating hours is approved

The Gatehouse pub

The Gatehouse pub

A Lichfield pub has been granted permission to extend the operating hours of its outside seating area.

Planning chiefs have given the go-ahead for The Gatehouse on Bird Street to use the streetfront facility until 10pm instead of the current 8pm curfew.

The pub’s owners, JD Wetherspoon, had originally applied to Lichfield District Council for an 11pm cut-off with all seating removed by 11.30pm.

However a decision notice from the council has given the go-ahead for an extension until 10pm with all exterior furniture taken away within half-an-hour of that time.

Planners have also insisted on seeing details of seating numbers, how the area will be cordoned off off and an outline of how the area will be managed before the new time limit can be put into place.

Full details of the application and decision can be found on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.

Good god, how times have changed. I remember when the pubs kicked out at 11 and there were mounted police on Bird Street by 11:30 – happy days
