A new astro-turf sports pitch has opened in Burntwood.

The facility at Chasetown Specialist Sports College will host a primary school football tournament organised by Aston Villa before having its ribbon officially cut by England hockey player Suzie Gilbert on November 12.

The all-weather pitch is a full size, sand-filled hockey pitch that also has markings for football and floodlights.

The facility is being made available for community use outside of school hours and a number of local clubs have already begun booking the astro-turf.

Headteacher Bernice Astling said:

“We are delighted with our new all-weather pitch which is a fantastic addition to our sport facilities. I know that the students will really enjoy using the pitch during school hours.

“We are also proud to be able to open the pitch to bookings by local clubs and teams.”
