Shenstone Pathfinder returned to winning ways after some poor results with an excellent performance against a Wyrley Juniors side who have lost only once since August.
The hosts were without captain Adam Sompson in central midfield and also Matt Jones, but Dale Anderson and Alex Leonard – the latter making his return to the club since a spell at Mid Com Premier side Castle Vale – were instrumental in a performance that was full of pace and commitment.
Pathfinder bossed the first half and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 15 minutes, Adam Wall caused mayhem on the right and his cross saw Seb Finkle receive the ball in the area. He showed his strength and technique as he held off the Wyrley centre half, turned him and fired an unstoppable shot past the Wyrley keeper from 12 yards.
Shenstone should haved added to their lead but Adam Wall had a goal disallowed for what looked a very close off side and Finkle’s shot from the edge of the box which was well saved.
Wyrley barely raised an attack in the first half and Pathfinder led at the break 1-0.
The second half was a closer affair with Wyrley pusing hard for an equaliser, but they found the home defence unbreakable under the stewardship of Steve White. The shots that did come in were well saved by an in form Callum Heanan who was also excellent taking crosses all day.
With 10 minutes to go Pathfinder sealed the win, the superb Finkle capped an excellent performance when he broke down the right and saw his pace halted unfairly inside the box. Dale Anderson made no mistake from the spot to give his side a deserved 2-0 win.
Shenstone host Heath Town Rangers in the Staffs Fa Vase next Saturday (November 13), kick off 1.30pm.
