Stafford Town FC Ladies 6 Chasetown FC Ladies 2

Chasetown put in an excellent performance against a technically very good Stafford side.

The hosts took just five minutes to take the lead from a well taken corner that saw the ball headed firmly into the net.

Fifteen minutes later a good through ball saw Stafford take a two goal lead and in soon became 3-0 with a well-taken penalty.

Chasetown were getting to see very little of the ball and were looking dead and buried until Simona Parker released Charlotte Bull down the left. She sped away from the defence and had the awareness to get her head up before crossing. Seeing Jade Arber running from deep the ball was pulled back and the ball was struck first time past the keeper from 30 yards.

Right at the end of the first half Stafford had another corner but this was cleared and the Scholars went on the break. Sinead Treanor played the ball through for Bull to race free. The keeper came out to smother the shot but Treanor had followed up to slot the ball into an empty net.

A 3-2 scoreline was certainly not a fair reflection of the play but it gave Chasetown some hope.

The second half started with the visitors again playing well but lady luck was not on their side.

Stafford Town took a hold of the game and scored again in the 55th and 65th minutes.

A few chances came Chasetown’s way with the Stafford keeper pulling off a good save from Treanor who then hit the post with a good shot a few minutes later.

As fatigue set in Stafford scored again to make the final score 6-2. Not an unfair scoreline, but Chasetown can’t be faulted for effort and spirit.
